From the President

Dear All,

It has been a pleasure to see our new members assimilating so successful into the club. Please let me know if you have any concerns.

Brian arranged a visit by the Council staff member Parrish Evans. The topics discussed were: painting the club house, improving the position of the hand rail on the path down to the carpark, replacing destroyed signage, and erecting a big sign at the corner of Kelburn Parade and Salamanca Road. Eleven years ago when John and I were wanting to play croquet we were pleasantly surprised to find the Kelburn Croquet Club, so near to us. We had not been aware of its existence even though we had lived in Wellington most of our lives! We need a colourful interesting sign so people know we are here. Luckily we have an expert Comms person on board (Lesley) to direct us!

We also discussed with Parrish ways to improve rubbish disposal and recycling around the lawns. Having several bins for separating rubbish at source would be a great improvement.

At the last committee meeting we discussed ways to learn the rules of croquet more thoroughly with the hope that a number of members will be keen to go the extra step and become referees. Expect more about this in the coming months.

An introduction to Advantage Croquet has been delayed but we will try it in the New Year.

Our Christmas celebration is this coming Saturday 17 December. Please bring a plate of food to share, a present for the Secret Santa basket and some food for the Wellington City Mission Appeal. The programme for the day is GC croquet until 12.00 midday as usual, drinks served  from 12.00, then lunch from 12.30 pm, followed by Secret Santa. AC and GC croquet will be played in the afternoon.

I wish you all a happy Christmas and a joyful New Year.

Kind regards

Mary Stevens
