From the President

Dear All,

It is a pleasure to welcome back Caroline and Barry from UK again. We will look forward to news of Colin Menzies after they return from Australia.

Summer croquet is in full swing: both AC and GC. On Friday morning we had three lawns of AC players and a welcome visit by Deirdre Wogan who is hoping to start playing AC again soon.

A highlight for GC players was the WCA GC handicap singles. It was disappointing that this Wellington tournament only had entries from 10 of our own Kelburn players. We appreciated the contribution of four referees and also the excellent arrangements made by the Tournament Manager, Jane Norman. Congratulations to Jim Brough, winner, and David Robinson, runner-up.

Kelburn has again had a strong representation in Interclub competition this year, both in AC and GC codes.

The Committee hasn’t met for a couple of months and the next meeting agenda will be very full. In the meantime, Brian Black has been busy liaising with the WCC team about a number of maintenance items including the painting of the exterior of the club house.

Mary Egley is engaging with the record number of corporate groups who have booked to come for parties before Christmas. She would appreciate more offers of help.

The Christmas lunch is on Saturday 17 December. Please bring a plate of food to share, a present for the Secret Santa basket, and some food for the Wellington City Mission Appeal.

A very happy Christmas to you all.

Mary Stevens

Help urgently needed with corporates

There is an urgent need for an additional three people to help at a corporate hire event this coming Friday 2 December, from 1.30 - 6.00 pm.

Five more people are needed for the event on Thursday 8 December from 1.00 - 5.00 pm.

Thank you to all those who have put your name down to help with one or more of these. It’s looking like a bumper year with 17 bookings in December alone.

It would be really helpful if members could consider doing at least three sessions.

The full list is on the board in the clubhouse. Please write your name on the list and/or email Mary mary@egley.net with your offers.

Thank you so much. The corporate hire events are always fun, and they contribute to holding our membership fees at a rate very much lower than they would otherwise be.

Last name badge order for the year

Let me know by 5 pm this Sunday 6 December if you want one of the plastic name badges. This will be the last order placed this calendar year.

I'm afraid the price has gone up just a little bit to cover costs, including the delivery fee.

The badges are 70 mm by 25 mm in size, made of plastic and resin. They are available with either a pin fastener ($18) or a magnet backing ($20). Pay directly to the club bank account, noting in the details that the payment is for a badge.

Kelburn Municipal Croquet Club bank account: 03-0518-0184916-00

Either email me at the club email address kelburnmcc@gmail.com to order a badge, or talk to me if you see me this week.
